Has my Amazon Fire HDX died?

My Amazon Fire HDX tablet, 5.5 years old, isn’t switching on. As it’s so old, I cannot find anything on the internet about this, only for current Amazon Fire/Fire HD. Which is to press and hold for 40 seconds.
Currently staying over at relatives and using the same usb cable and plug which charged my Kindle last night without issues.
Shall I give up?

5.5 years for a tablet is good value for money, time to get a new one as it won't be cost effective to repair even if someone can still do it. Possible battery is knackered (will it run when charging)?
Sam Vimes' Boots Theory of Socioeconomic Unfairness:
People are rich because they spend less money. A poor man buys $10 boots that last a season or two before he's walking in wet shoes and has to buy another pair. A rich man buys $50 boots that are made better and give him 10 years of dry feet. The poor man has spent $100 over those 10 years and still has wet feet.
