Looking for Simple Garage Door Open Alarm

Hi we have an electrically operated garage door and on a few occasions during the dark nights we have gone out for something, come back in and due to some distraction forgotten to press the button in the house to close the door. Other times opening the door then the phone rings, change mind about going out the the garage, and it is left open all night. No problems in the summer as you can see the open door from the kitchen window.
I am looking for a simple alarm that would flash or beep in the house when the door is open. I have searched online and everything is either too cheap and nasty £5-£10 or too expensive £200-£300 and too complicated for what we need. The garage is about twenty paces away from the house so a simple wireless gizmo preferably mains operated would be ideal. I have seen a few around the £30-£50 range but they are specific to door gear a manufacturer.
Any ideas would be great!

Does the garage door opener have a light that comes on? I wonder if you could connect another light in the house to the same connection.0

I made my own door open indicator cost me about £5.
Used a flashing neon light, a small switch,a bit of wire & a plug in transformer.
Been working 15 years now.0 -
Not sure if this one continuously sounds when the contacts are open:

Alternatively, if you are handy with DIY and know some electronics, you can make your own that lights an LED or sounds a buzzer using the electronics from a cheap radio controlled car set:

A light that switches on when the door opens that you can see from the kitchen window
If it is so dark you can't see the door some light could make is safer.0 -
It's the wireless bit which is tricky, if you can run a cable or use an indicator light on the garage it would be easy.
You can get robust metal door contacts, intended for roller shutter doors which work well with up and over garage doors.
You can use these to switch small, low voltage loads, or wire into a burglar alarm, to monitor and ring a bell every time it opens.
