USB to HDMI

Trying to display my laptop on TV
I have a laptop with the following:
USB 3.1 Type-C™ Gen 1 (Data Transfer up to 5 Gb/s)
But it doesn't have DP Alternate mode - so I can't use regular cables
Is there a solution?

Which is exactly the same item as

There are various ones on Amazon between £9.99 and £15 which are exactly the same model.

The HP envy USB 3 port doesn't have DisplayPort Alternate Mode - will this be an issue?

If the laptop doesn't have Displayport Alternate Mode i.e. Displayport-over-USB then you'd need to use a USB external video card with its own driver.

I think this would do

but maybe check with Startech Support before purchase. Note that an external graphics card will be more expensive than the cheap Displayport-over-USB adapter cables.

Look on amazon for usb to hdmi or usb 3.0 to hdmi rather than USB C. They don't need dp alternate mode.

Just bought one and didn't work - no audio.
