This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.
Morning
nanny window Dont be too shocked it is actually me
Well the dreaded make over is complete. Perhaps not as bad as I had expected on the Saturday before Xmas certainly not as busy as I thought. Anyway I now have a new haircut and to be fair it looks ok and I feel about a stone lighter with the hair she took off...if only it was true  I also have red green and silver nails ...very festive. The only thing was that after 2.5 hours I couldn't do any longer so I still look like Dennis Healey but with a nice fringe to cover
I may have a go myself today and also do my toenails.
Today will include some ironing which is rare as hens teeth for me ...in fact my iron is still in the box
Also need to do a Friday tidy on Sunday but there seems to be enough on telly to keep me entertained during my chores
Last nights food was some lamb kofta kebabs with a big salad and flat breads
lush Today I may do a bit of a roast with some turkey breast steaks and all the gubbins that will mean bubble and squeak tomorrow :T
Have a lovely day all :A

Hi Nelski,
I hope you are well, I've not had time to post the past few days but I read about your mother buying gifts for your brother while shopping with you! I'm speechless. Thank you for updating us on Holly, I'll be wishing her the best Christmas she can have.
taff, I'm glad you've got a bra sorted out.
I was kicking myself for arranging to pick up my turkey from M & S at 11am yesterday, all the earlier slots had gone and I was expecting it to be a nightmare, in fact it couldn't have been easier, I sailed straight into a parking spot and the shop wasn't too busy. It doesn't bode well for the trading figures though. I'd left Steve at Chris and Crystal's to meet a plumber about replacing their boiler, Chris was still at work in Wales. They had one quote for £18,500 and no radiators being replaced in that. It's a large house but not that big.
When we got back we took Ziggy for a walk, then I put the pork in the slow cooker and made sweet pastry for the mince pies, today I'll finish those and make pork, broccoli and brie lasagne and salmon lasagne for Christmas eve dinner. Then I can relax!0 -
Morning folks.
Thanks for starting us off Nelski.
Today I’m heading into town, really just for a wander around. There’s nothing I need to buy, it’s just that I get stir-crazy when with DM, especially when here for more than two days. She’s very anxious and doesn’t like me being out of the house but I need to be!
I’ll get the bus in, start at the top of town (Sauchiehall Street) and drift down Buchanan Street to the Virgin Money lounge for a freebie coffee. The bus stop back is just round the corner. No doubt the crowds of shoppers will annoy me so I won’t be out long.
Sprinkles of good wishes to everyone. Happy Sunday b0 -

A woman around the corner went out to pick some mistletoe, she found loads of it so brought a few bunches home. She cut it into small pieces of about 15 berries per sprig and hung it on her fence with a note telling people to help themselves. How lovely is that?
I managed to watch half of Watership Down last night but had to turn over, Scamp kept trying to chase the rabbitsI'll watch it another time. It's going on to Netflix I think, which I prefer – iplayer annoys me, it takes too long to load and is just too faffy.
The turkey is defrosting in the fridge, some of the extra milk I bought on friday has been put in the freezer, in the space the turkey left behind. I'll cook most of the party food today, so there will be more freezer/fridge swaps going on.

Morning folks and thanks to the new look NELSKIE for kicking off.
I must do some neglected jobs today as early tomorrow morning I am going down the hill to DDs to have breakfast with them all and staying till Christmas Day afternoon. It will all be a bit disjointed with the performers to take to panto at lunchtime, leaving just me, eldest DGD and DD's lovely chap. Once they get back home it will be Christmas Eve boxes and games.
Christmas Day morning we will all open all our presents but come early afternoon the girls are going to their dad's for late lunch and sadly DD has to go to work. (People still poorly at Xmas) Leaving just me and DD's BF! I am then coming home for a bit of peace and quiet and getting stuff organised for next day!
Boxing Day no-one has to work and DGDs have a panto free day so that is our postponed Christmas Day with everybody, including DS and his DP, present and correct for lunch! I always cook the meats here to take down and also make my famous tuna pate as one of the starters.
Have a lovely day folks if you can and ((HUGS)) aplenty for the poorlies, sad, worried or lonely amongst us. Take care all xx"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"0 -
Morning everyone and thanks for the start Nelski, your comment about Denis Healey did make me chuckle.
It’s very wet and miserable out there, little dog did her business and run straight back in, hopefully it will clear up at some point. We have DSS’s coming for dinner today before heading up to spend Christmas with their Mum, they have requested a turkey dinner so I picked up a stuffed breast joint as didn’t want much in the way of leftovers, neither of us are that keen.
Have a good day folks x0 -
Good morning and thanks Nelski for starting us off.
I was late to bed but slept reasonably well. Very dark here, central Scotland. I feel like hibernating but today will be spent preparing to go to my aunt tomorrow afternoon. It's about an hour's drive so not a long journey, and I'm leaving in the early afternoon.
Yesterday afternoon I dropped off another Christmas gift. Coffee club in the morning was really enjoyable as it wasn't crowded and it was easier to have conversations with less background noise. I did a small shop in the evening of fresh items to take to my aunt. A good time to go as it wasn't busy.
My other daughter living overseas jumped the gun and opened the parcel containing the photobook I had made for her. Cue a rant via email, furious that in chronicling her childhood and early adulthood we've included pictures of her with her sister. (She's ostracised her for the past six years for reasons no one can understand). All the other parts of the book, with photos unique to her covering all aspects of her life and interests count for nothing.
Apparently including images of her with her sister was condescending and cruel. Lordy. I'm at a loss as to how to respond. She's been in therapy for the past year, and is clearly fragile and I feel all I can do is keep telling her how deeply I love her and avoid pouring petrol on the fire. Families can be complicated, can't they, and Cain and Abel situations are not that uncommon. I still feel horrible especially with both daughters being so far away.
Anyway, I'll use mental discipline to avoid dwelling on it today. A friend used to say "a mother's place is in the wrong", it certainly feels that way here!
I hope our poorlies and carers are doing as well as possible, and that there were less of us awake in the wee small hours.0 -
Good morning all,
We're up and at it here. The HT was awake just before 7 and I had to get up to put the bin out - usual bin day is Wednesday so it's being done today instead. Breakfast was rudely interrupted by the cat knocking over the HT's coffee. I'm so pleased I decided to leave mopping the floor until today or I'd have been doing it twice.
My "to do" list for today is hoover upstairs, hoover and mop downstairs, iron the HT's school shirts (it gets them hung up out of the way) and make a chocolate cake for the HT. We're calling round to my friend for a quick visit about 2pm and when I come home I'm hoping to be able to do some of my knitting.
Dinner is going to be gammon and something I think. Possibly chips and beans. The gammon can sit in the slow cooker for the day. It's one of the HT's favourite meals.
Taff I'm glad to hear that you're happy with your more even appearance.
Nelski my hair needs cutting but I couldn't face it at all at this time of year.
Snoozer £18,500!!! Someone is having a laugh....
TA love and hugs as always. If it gets hard just concentrate on the next hour not the next day or the next week
Take care all of you0 -
Morning all,
Thanks Nelski for the start, glad the haircut is ok.
I'm the only one up here ,although DS2 &DGD went to his mates last night for a sleepover. The men like watching the boxing and the girls like playing together. Not sure if she's going straight home after or not but she's back again tomorrow as is DGS.We have our present unwrapping with them on Boxing Day (Christmas Mark 2)
Ly1a is pretending to be asleep, she's been out for a wee but doesn't like rain so she's putting off her walk.I think its been raining all night.
Aaw Wee Midgie, you put such a lot of time and effort into that photobook for DD,what a shame its not appreciated.Perhaps in time it will be.
I think DH wants to do some Crimbo shopping today, and then we want to rearrange the dining table to the other end of the room so we can get 8 chairs round.
Snoozer, as a builders wife I'd say that sounds a tad expensive
Glad you got a bra sorted Taff
Right,we need to get on so we'll all have to get wet whether the hound likes it or notHave a good day all, and hugs to the poorlies xx

Morning all
Its been raining here but seems to have stopped now its a very grey damp day though, I would much prefer very cold but bright please
Tru I now have 62 small saus rolls and four big ones we also had a sausage platt for dinner last night with mash and sprouts with cranberries it was lush, I am still slightly panicky that its not enough but dd thinks its hysterical and keeps taking the pee :rotfl:
I have no food prep to do really as we are off to my sisters xmas day and dd's boxing day although I may make some more tarts which I did not get round to yesterday, I surprisingly miss the food prep bits I would normally be doing.
Nels I loathe having my hair cut too so much so that I have probably not been for coming up two years, I have very very thick long hair and have had all the staff in the hairdressers crowding round to 'have a look' in the past and they get the juniors to comb it out and Ive has three working on it beforeI go as rarely as I can.
Right better get on with the day have good days all xx0 -
Morning lovelies
It's Sunday already ? Gosh the time is certainly flying by.
I didn't get round to the ironing ( boo - hiss) but there isn't much in the basket that needs doing before Xmas, only a couple of house T.shirts.
Mr Fix It has taken the turkey out to defrost, ready for cooking tomorrow and I shall look for the pork loin later.
He is currently emptying the DW and says he will run the hoover over the living room when I get out of his way. Blummin bossy boots ! Santa won't be coming to him :rotfl:.
Dad said he is coming for lunch so I will just prepare the roasties, as we are having pork chops and mixed veg with gravy. Easy lunch today :j.
Right I'd better get on as I'm being summoned to the kitchen with " where does this go ?" . Knew he couldn't cope without me.
Nelski are you sure it's you ? I don't want to be talking to a stranger  :rotfl:Thanks for the start off, enjoy your day :A
WeeMidge sending you lots of hugs.
TA take care my friend xx
Snoozer how much ???
Good luck to those heading to town for last minute shopping. Personally I couldn't think of anything worse at this time of year ( I don't like crowds at the best of times )
The hug bucket is full so please help yourselves. There are so many people on here in need for one reason or another. Take care and I hope you all have a good Sunday.
nan xxFailure is simply the opportunity to begin again, but this time more intelligently0
