VPM*s what equipment

Options
If I download a VPN either a free one or a subsciption one does that just cover my PC or will include my tablet and Fire Stock. Is it based on your home IP address or just one piece of equipment.

all. just install and sign in with account details
  • Some have limits on the number of devices you can install it on. You can check with each one before buying or installing.
Things that are differerent: draw & drawer, brought & bought, loose & lose, dose & does, payed & paid

I think the reason you are using a VPN is quite important. Firstly I am not an expert but I am trying to find my way through the VPN maze.
    I have 3 paid for VPN's
1, PIA, no use at all, steaming just doesn't work
2, Smart DNS Proxy, does work but the setup is difficult and even then you may have to start a stream several times to get it to work
3, TorGuard, just works but having said that the have the additional option of buying a streaming IP which I thin is totally worthwhile.

This is all setup on my router which then allows me to have it on or off and actually on my router (an Asus) I can have it on but can select the individual devices that route through the VPN - or not.

Seems quite easy to get a lifetime 50% deal with TorGuard

It sounds like I am getting paid by TorGuard (which I am not) but that is something you need to be wary of. I believe that the VPN market is heavily into 'affiliate marketing' so a LOT of VPN reviews or recommendations are simply money making ventures!

    I have Nord VPN.

You can have it on many devices but only 6 can connect at the same time
  • Apologies - bad terminology on my part re the number of devices.

I use the Windscribe app, the free version, just so I can stream some foreign radio stations that are not available in the UK, when driving.

Some companies give multiple licences and support android, PC, mac and linux clients. A fire stick may be covered too. it all depends on the company.

The client software makes a connection the the vpn providers server which unencrypts the message, so it should make no difference if you are at home or in another part of the world.

The client only protects that piece of equipment, but some piece of equipment are able to share, like some routers and PCs. These are able to supply your whole household with encrypted data.

    1) I used PIA for about 3 years. Previous VPN provider was quite bad in their traffic management, then changed to a trial of NordVPN (i thought they were useless, but now fairly sure it was my isp - SKY), then PIA and the throughput started well for a month then dropped to surfing speed only. I contacted Sky, and after being pushed around was given the answer 'We do not vpn traffic, do not use a vpn' the path was not blocked, just severely traffic managed. Being a month away from being out of contract, I jumped ship and my PIA worked perfectly with the new isp (more or less).

Also, if you select the exit node as uk, you will still not get to places verboten in the UK, but will get bbc and a very good throughput. Be aware of your exit nodes and the capabilities.

    2) A smart dns is a proxy service, your data is not encrypted, so potentially is faster, but your isp can inspect all the data, not secure and people could potentially inject stuff

    3) Reviews of Torguard sound good, and doing it through a router is great. Not sure if they support IKEv2 though. IKEv2 faster than openvpn and automatic reconnection after the vpn link is broken is heaven

I am looking to install a VPN on my Amazon Fire Stick for use with my Kodi download. I have read that Tunnel Bear or Winscribe are two VPN that could suit my purpose. I believe they are free or relatively cheap.

I would not use TunnelBear, I am with Winscribe. If I did not get he lifetime vpn offer for £40, would not have hesitated going to NordVPN. Windscribe does give a free monthly capped download, and to 10 countries.

There is no such thing as a free lunch, but these people do offer a totally free vpn service that is really good, but they also log, and it is much trickier to set up, has limitations, but it does work on a PC, gets me around the office firewall and filtering system which cost a shed load of cash. Doing bypassing corporate filtering is bad, you will eventually get caught and loose your job https://www.vpngate.net/en/

Thank you for the feedback.what I now really need to know the best VPN to install on my Amazon Fire Stick for use with my Kodi download, is there a decent free VPN or will this not cover streaming. If I need to pay a subscription how much should it be,. I prefer not to have one that is complicated to install as I am not the quickest when it comes to any technical.
