I'm done buying any more large items for the house and garden. Anything else would just be titivation. When I moved here five years ago I only brought the three 'white' goods, one bed and one chest of drawers.

My final piece of frippery arrived today, and electric throw which is simply fab.

I keep an eye on my finances and every three months tot up what I've got, so far so good. My SP kicks in late July.

My knitting days are over, I used to really enjoy it in winter months, now I read!

I've got some lovely adult colouring books that I want to get back into doing as I find it occupies me and de stresses me. Trouble is, in the evening I like the little lamps on for cozyness, but really need the main light on and to sit at the dining table in the other room if I want to colour. So every evening when I have thought of doing some, I have changed my mind as I want to stay snuggly on the sofa. So not sure if I will get back into it or not.

  • Good morning all

Yesterday I booked my holiday to Poland in March :j. My friend and I are going Monday - Friday to a hotel on a bed and breakfast basis in the old town of Krakow. Flights from Edinburgh are included for a cost of £294. I sat yesterday and re jigged my budget again and reckon if I have a no spend January, eat from cupboards and freezer and use £100 I have in the house I will be able to pay the holiday without touching my savings. I love a challenge :rotfl:

I was given a Historic Scotland membership at Christmas and will use this to give me some nice cheap days out. Tomorrow my friend and I are going to a 12th century castle - last time I was there my children were in primary school.

I'm thinking of signing up for a months' free membership of Amazon. I love the Outlander series and will be able to watch the fourth series this month when I'm not out spending. I have alreday visited 7 of the filming locations of the series and hoping to visit more this year.

I haven't used the car this week and the only thing I would have used it for was to drop off fabric at the recycling centre. I'm sewing a memory quilt and have lots of scrap fabric. I couldn't take this by bus as it is too bulky. But so far not missing the car.

I'm feeling very enthusiastic about my January challenge xx

    Good morning guys
I’m carless too at the moment, I don’t drive and OH had an op on his shoulder and can’t drive at the moment so I’m taking it as an opportunity. To get more walking in, which hopefully will help with the weight loss and I also feel better when I’ve been out in the daylight. Work is a 25 min walk away, easily doable. We’re lucky that we have decent public transport here, trams and buses. If the weather goes bad I’ll buy a pass but otherwise I’m going to give the walking a try.
Apart from that not much to tell. January always is quite a boring month.
Our youngest son has said that his firm is thinking about relocating out of Manchester City centre to nearer here. If that happens he’ll buy a house near us. Would be lovely to have him near but I’m not setting my heart on it yet ( but I am having a sneaky look at the property sites )
I hope you all keeping warm and well. It’s blowing a gale here at the moment, all the fun of living near the sea. I love it.
Anyway I’d better get some jobs done. Speak again soon.

I used to do a lot of jigsaws, until we got a new dining room table. Our new table is smaller, and I have to open it out for it to be big enough for jigsaws.

It all seems to be a bit of a kerfuffle, so I don't bother so much now. What I have started doing, from the comfort of the sofa, is word games on my phone.

I've noticed there are also colouring apps, so that might be an idea to try. At some point I hope to get a new iPad (my current one is so slow now) and I probably will do colouring and jigsaws on the iPad, as it will be easier on a bigger screen.

Apart from that, I do a lot of reading

    Hi everyone
I enjoy jigsaws, but only do them at Christmas and then everybody has a go that visits, When we have dinner I just cover it with a tablecloth and hope nobody spills anything on it!!

Im nearly at the end of my sorting out and have found a few projects that were started and not finished so Ive put them to one side to complete when the tidying is finished..
Ive been making lots of soup and stews this week to keep me warm and they last a couple of days so that's a bonus!
Anyway going to make myself cuppa

Hi everyone, Frizz2 I`m exactly the same, very much a planner. I booked 3 nights in London for end of July in a family room at a Travelodge for £123.00 - Also got some vouchers for meals out while there and a 3 day river boat pass. Cheap little break.
Clothes, I`m trying to brighten up a little, I have a lot of dark clothes.
I`m doing the walking challenge (1000 miles in a year) so that`s free and a hobby I can use to take some nice photos while out and about.
I am going to check if its worth getting an English Heritage membership or not.
I managed to get some lovely smoked salmon slices on yellow sticker last week (30p) a packet, don`t come better than that. Will try to `yellow sticker` shop a little more to help the food budget.

    Have a lovely day everyone.

    Hi everyone

Having a very frugal month this month, Ive cut back on everything so I haven't been anywhere, done anything or spent very much at all. I know I couldn't do it all the time and Im just happy that I don't have to, But it highlighted areas that I do spend in that I don't really think about, so its been a useful experiment so far.

So getting a bit fed up of bean this and that, to eat with the few veggies I have had in since Christmas (and a cabbage from before Christmas) but I am grateful for the having food in. I have the breadmaker on, the washing has been done and Im sat on the settee with a lap quilt on my knee doing some sewing and watching the TV. So that is me for today!!

I'm on my laptop at the moment, so I did a Google search and found several jigsaw sites.

I'm definitely going to try one out.

    Great tip, thank you :j
