Convert wma files to mp3 format

I have new MP3 player which will not play the wma files my old MP3 player did. The format is not supported. I have search online for file converters and a number are shown in my search. Has anyone any experience of using these converters and is able to recommend one please. I didn't want to use one and then find in the process that the conversion has install sometime undesirable into the file just waiting to unleash itself on my computer.

I thoughtI would seek the advice of the experts here first, rather than doing something and having a bigger problem later.

Recommendations and suggestions on how to do this take much appreciated please. Thanks

Mediacoder will convert pretty much anything. Though the results of converting from one lossy format to another will be dreadful.


Get rid of your rubbish new MP3 player and buy a better one, or recycle an old phone.

I use Switch Sound File Converter. Converts pretty much anything to anything else.

The results are perfectly fine for any use except maybe high end sound systems.

Did you build the collection of WMA by ripping from CD?

Foobar2000 will convert WMA to mp3, and will not install any nasties on your machine. I've used it for years.

I used Zamzar to convert my Wma fles to MP3. Totally free, no download needed, and worked a treat.
