Closing foreign bank account for deceased person

Hi everyone - my apologies if this has already been answered, please direct me to the thread if it has as I couldn't find it.

My parents had a bank account each with Santander in Majorca as we used to spend a lot of time there.

My mother has passed away, my father is old and has dementia. I have LPA for my father and we have wills for both parents.

Both accounts have a small amount of money in, but worth rescuing, and there are also problems with direct debits that are no longer relevant being taken out.

I want to close and clear both bank accounts but I don't speak Spanish and I will struggle to find time to go out there. I have no idea how In could set up online banking for either account.

Any suggestions or direction towards solutions would be greatly appreciated, thank you.

Do they have Santander accounts in the UK too? If so you could try speaking to them here to see if they can assist in Spain.

Write a letter to the bank (in English), ask for the account to be closed and enclose the death certificate and the LPA. Someone will get in touch with you and if the bank needs more information, you supply it.

I would send certified copies - you don't want to lose the originals.
