Landlord using our electricity for their farm building
Comments
-
Is it just me or should people be weary of farmers who moonlight as landlords? Been a couple of posts about this of late...
Sounds like he's using your electricity... perhaps you should send him your tariffs
Our landlord is a farmer and he is excellent. We are through a letting agent, who is also good, although we know they don’t work for us. Our landlord has had anything done very quickly and texts us to make sure the letting agent has done things and we are ok. His Farm is up the lane a bit and he has dropped in when asked to help us with things. Can’t fault the letting agent or our farmer landlord.0 -
Are you going to need a reference from this farmer or no for future accommodation?
If you are = darn it.
If you're not = that leaves you free-r to try and get back whatever money he owes you at the end of your tenure. For instance - when notice is given say "We'll go quietly - on one condition - ie that we get back the money you owe us for electric. If we don't = then we'll be 'awkward' about things".
I dislike tenants using/abusing the law to "drag things out" normally. But, in this case - if he's playing silly b&ggers then two can play at that game.0 -
Given the size of standing charges it is normally sensible to share an electricity supply if you are able to do so. (In some cases it can be positively idiotic to install a second supply).
Just make sure the arrangement is fair - which you may be able to do by carrying out a few tests as already suggested.0 -

We may do, though we may get away with using the previous letting agents, who were brilliant and who thought we were great tenants. Our currently letting agent also says we're good tenants, and it's them who we'll be putting down for reference if we need to. However, they're not the greatest letting agent ... they've been ringing us since August, for example ...
