Economy Energy came out with debt out of nowhere - how would it affect my rating.

Options
I was with Economy Energy and left them. To get my money back I had to use the help of Ombudsman. 1 month after I got my money back I received and email that they did a review and I owe them over £400. I did receive just amount to pay without any attachement, bill or explanation where did the magic amount came out from. It is complete lie and according to the news Economy Energy is on the brink of collapse. According to trustpilot reviews the same happened to other people too. So far there is no mention of debt collectors but other people had it. If they would refer it debt collector then how would it affect my credit rating at what stage and how could I fight it knowing that company simply trying to steal money from people before they go bust.

I guess debt collector would not care about my evidence that I do not owe them any money (final bills etc).

Many thanks

I'd go back to the ombudsman and ask them to review the figures. I can't help suspecting your energy co is trying it on.

I opened case with Ombudsman but they closed it immediately saying that I need to try to resolve it with company in question for min 8 weeks. Then they can step in. In the meantime Consumer Helpline Extra Help Unit is investigating that on my behalf.
