Lincoln...

Get decent property for around the £300-£350k mark...

What's the city like to live for a family? Good facilities, good communities? Schools ok?

Got a few visits planned but be nice to hear from those already living their or those who moved away?

Thanks

Where are you moving from? What facilities do you want? What age are your children?

Lincolnshire has grammar schools. Great if your kids will get in. Not so great if they won't, or you need to spend all your cash on additional schooling to get them to pass the entry exams.

From Norfolk. No, state schools. Ideally looking for towns in and around the city?

Lincoln is awesome. My husband was living there when we met and his daughter and family are still there. North side is nicest, known as uphill, we were off rasen lane. Lots of new builds on the outskirts. Hartsholme country park is amazing. Would live there again in a heartbeat.

We live about 12 miles from Llincoln and as others have said it is a great town, thriving shopping area with lots of specialist shops, cheese shop up Steep hill is our favourite, as is Portico for lunch when in town.
BUT the health service is terrible! the only time I needed to use it in an emergency 111 do not call back. no ambulances are available and wait over 2 hours in and out of consciousness to be triaged in Lincoln A&E.
  • Agreed, Lincoln is lovely. Schools vary, as with everywhere. Check out a school you're interested in and then look at houses in the area. We are in North Hykeham, having moved here from Uphill Lincoln, and prefer the green spaces and facilities here to uphill. The houses have bigger gardens and more space for your money. You should be able to get something decent (in my opinion!) for less than £250k, obviously depending on your requirements.

I agree re. the hospital but with a medical school opening here soon, maybe it will improve!
  • My husband had a heart attack last year and was air lifted to Lincoln Hospital where the medical team helped save his life so they can’t be all bad.
    Swings, roundabouts...
 Ageing is a privilege not everyone gets.
  • The whole health service run by ULHT is dire! We have no out of hours service, just 111 which does not get back. Plus the Care Quality Commission had to step in and help during their Boston inspection as they felt lives were in danger!
So love Lincoln but we are moving away due to these failings.

I'm thinking of moving to the Lincoln area from Portsmouth.

Worked there for 3 weeks about 20 years ago and thought it was really nice. Plus property in the area seems good value compared to where I am.

I just need to research areas to avoid etc. Not to fussed on schools as I have no children.

I grew up in a town near Lincoln. (Out towards Grimsby)

Some really rough estates in the city but mostly lovely.

Louth is lovely. Or a small town like Caistor which has an excellent grammar school.

Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')

No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)
  • We moved from the South Coast to Lincolnshire a good few years ago. We wanted a rural bungalow with a large garden that wasn't overlooked. It was quite hard to find one that suited us and we ended up in Shepeau Stow which is nearer to Spalding than Lincoln. My husband's office was in Lincoln but he didn't have to go there that much so it suited us.
