Good luck. Hope I didn't sound critical re FIL. We used to have loans like that with MIL however she wasn't loaded so needed the money. She was always okay about loaning us money (quite a while ago now) but borrowing from my parents came with too many stringsAchieve FIRE/Mortgage Neutrality in 2030

I'll give them a call and see what they say, anything back would be nice really.
Definitely worth a shot. Could be best £££ return on half an hour that you spend this year
If you can though I would wait a few weeks as jan 31 is self assessment deadline so they will be hectic until then and possibly a little afterI think I saw you in an ice cream parlour

Ah, good point. Might wait until the start of February then.
Had a nice, quiet weekend, minimal spends.
We're starting our next house project soon, our bedroom. We'll have to do it in slow stages as will be quite a big job; electrics, plastering, paint, carpeting, wardrobes, light, curtains/blind.
We've got £1500 in our renovation account, we're hoping that will cover everything except the wardrobes and we'll continue to save in the meantime

If OH doesn't get the bonus he's expecting, we'll use the reno budget to clear the persistent credit card, but we're hoping to reduce it a bit in the meantime with January and February pay chequesDFD March 2025 (£35000 paid off)

Are you still managing to bring your food spend down? It will be great to see the CC go.Achieve FIRE/Mortgage Neutrality in 2030

Yes, have been keeping to £150 a week. Main weekly shop is £135 and then midweek I tend to top up our supplies, but keep that to under £15. That amount includes our alcohol and toiletries
too, which I don't think is too bad for a family of 7 (and a greedy cat).DFD March 2025 (£35000 paid off)

Have been quiet on here for a few days, mainly because nothing has been happening, just normal family life.
Get paid by one job tomorrow, thank goodness! OH gets paid Friday :j and then I get paid by more other job next Thursday. No council tax to pay this month eitherDFD March 2025 (£35000 paid off)

We've both been paid Jan's pay already - I am grateful our paydays aren't any later. Good that you are keeping on top of grocery spends.Achieve FIRE/Mortgage Neutrality in 2030

The clubs are such an expense aren't they, but important I think! My oldest does just two extra curricular activities and the baby just does swimming and that costs me over £100 per month in total!3

It really adds up, doesn't it? But yes, important to give them opportunities to do things out of their comfort zones.
I went on my bank account tonight and set up all the payments to go out tomorrow for when the bulk of paydays arrive. It was strangely satisfying.
I like seeing where we stand on 1st of the month... I could/should look on YNAB, but i find it intriguing to look at bank balance first! :rotfl:DFD March 2025 (£35000 paid off)
