Meter details not on National Database. CANT SWITCH!!

Hi all,

I need some advice. At the moment I'm with Cooperative Energy and I've been trying to switch to Bulb energy. My meter details are not in the national database apparently, therefore I'm unable to switch. I contacted Coop in September and asked them to update the meter details. They replied saying this will be done within 28days. It's now nearly January and they still haven't been updated my meters, therefore I still can't switch energy supplier. It basically feels like there locking me in. I have emailed cooperative again today to see what going on. How can I escalate this if they still don't update my meters? I'm not afraid of cancelling the direct debit if needs be and they can get there money when they allow me to switch.

Thanks. Sam.

That cannot be correct. A supplier cannot set up an account and bill you unless your meters are registered. That said, the registrations may not be correct. For example, my meter registrations were set up with an incorrect postcode. I switched using the incorrect postcode and my new supplier updated the database. Personally, I would give your present supplier a month to update the databases. Cancelling your DD will not force any supplier intoaction, and you could end up in breach of contract.

If you have the MPAN and MPRN, you call check the registered details. Google - who is my supplier?
