ESA question

Hi my hubby is an ESA claimant and was told he would receive £114.85 per week which is ESA couples rate, I asked if my Carers allowance would stop as I presumed it would and was told that as I’m my daughters Carer and not my husbands it would continue as normal.
My hubby has just received his award notice with the Carers allowance removed, a Carer premium added and also says we have another £29.56 per week coming into the household. I have no idea what that money could be unless it’s my daughters DLA but the figures are all wrong.
Have the DWP made an error here? Should we get full CA or not?

Entitlement to CA continues but what happens behind the scenes is that CA paymnent is deducted from the couples rate ESA and then a premium is added. That is where the additional £29+ comes from.

Confusing?
We was told we would continue getting full CA with no deductions as it’s for a child.
Living expenses for you and your partner £114.85
Extra money because your partner is a Carer £36.00
Which gives a total income-related amount £150.85
Carers Allowance for your partner £64.60
Other income for your household £29.56
Your total income £94.16
Your income-related amount is £150.85 less total income of £94.16
So your entitlement is £56.69
Then received an update saying from 29th November ESA will be £86.25 per week
What is the £29.56?0 -

What is the £29.56?
Carer's Allowance is counted as income for income based ESA purposes.
So the update is correct.
Living expenses for you and your partner = £114.85
Extra money because your partner is a carer = £36.00
Total = £150.85
Income
Carer's Allowance for your partner = £64.60
Your income related amount is £150.85 minus £64.60
Total amount = £86.25
Carer's Allowance will be paid separately.
I do not know what the £29.65 is.
It could be
tariff income because you have savings over £6000
income from your OH's SSP
pay from your OH's previous employment
a mistake
something else.
You can telephone and ask but the latest update appears correct.0 -
Ok thank you0

From 29th November the £29.56 has clearly dropped off the calculation. It may be a part week adjustment for one week only due to the different benefit timings.Information I post is for England unless otherwise stated. Some rules may be different in other parts of UK.0

The £29.56 was wtc which has stopped now but it seems that the advice I received regarding full Carer’s allowance for a child was wrong.
Am I right in saying we should receive £114.85 esa + £36.00 Carer’s premium = £150.85?
It looks to me like they’ve got it wrong by adding the esa and premium together £150.85 and then deducted the £64.60 Carer’s allowance off leaving overall benefit payment of£86.25. I have asked them to check this.
Can anyone clarify if they’ve made a mistake?

no, they have done it right. Pmlindyloo did explain it in the post above, how it should be worked out.0

If the Carers allowance wasn't deducted from your ESA then you would be paid twice, this is going to happen.cornish_donkey wrote: »It looks to me like they’ve got it wrong by adding the esa and premium together £150.85 and then deducted the £64.60 Carer’s allowance off leaving overall benefit payment of£86.25.
