Cifas cat 6 marker help

So when I was 16/17 I foolishly gave up my card and details to someone who I went to school with who I considered a mate being told that money would be put into my account , i know now that this was stupid and I was just used as a money mule at the time I didn’t realise the consequences as I didn’t have no money or overdraft so didn’t think much could go wrong or really know what I was getting involved in.
I have a basic account which I had my wages paid into for two years now , but as I’m getting older I’m looking at getting a credit rating, but I can’t get anything more than a basic account , I’ve read that i would most likely have a CAT 6 CIFAS MARKER against me , how long will this stay on there for this was back in 2013/14 ? And if it is removed after 6 years will I be able to get more than a basic account afterwards? Any advice would be appreciated thanks in advance

  • 6 years I believe.

Contact CIFAS and ask them what they have registered against you and check all 3 of your credit files.

Ignore any scores or ratings as they’re not real
  • Any ideas how to get hold of this information , thanks Gary

    I've been Money Tipped!
Sorry to butt in, but rather than start my own thread back when I was 18 I got into debt and didn't pay back (more due to the interest and fees added than not wanting to) im not in my mid 30s and whilst I haven't applied for a bank account in about 5 years, and 2 credit cards (1 of which I was accepted for) each time I get a message I will hear back in a few days even though its meant to be instant, so could this be why?.
  • Check your CIFAS and CRA files. It may be simply be due to further checks being needed.
