Personally I don't think you need a bigger house? Why?? Each child has a room, you both I presume share one.

If SIL/MIL want to stay they can help finance an extension, why not. Or put up on a sofa-bed

In your enviable position I would personally use the money to send the children to private school etc.

When you both grow old you don't need to buy a bungalow :rotfl:

If you do really want to do things on the cheap and have a bigger garden

Obviously maybe ask someone here if they do have the experience

On a lighter note I think you are fighting because your SIL/MIL have taken over your life, in my case if it was 8 weeks I would be out on the streets looking for a shared room after the D word. Maybe this is your real issue ha ha

stay put or go to new build.... no choice for me it would be stay put... not sure why you want to rent through renovations .. I've pretty much rebuilt apart from the walls , stayed put with an outside loo with a stand pipe in the kitchen and younger children working from home...

If you are not extending family two fold then it's a no brainier for me.. MIL and SIL staying for 8 weeks each year ... even better , if they liked a new house that much they may move in, this way it's a bit cramped for 2 months so no chance of moving in.

    Winner , winner , chicken dinner :-D

We are in exactly the same situation. We found a dream house but it had issues so now looking at a bigger mortgage with first direct fixed for 5 years on a bigger house. We are mortgage free and payments when we move are £860 per month we have less income that you. We are going for it we got a good price for our house and a decent deal on the new one will be an investment in the long term
