I have a new android tablet and set a password to logback in after it has been turned it off.

However it is auto logging off when it is idle and then I have to log back in with my password again, which I don't want. How do I fix it?

It may depend on your version of Android. On my Nexus 5X phone with stock Android 8.1 there is a Screen Lock option in Security & location that includes None. But if you are using a supplier mangled version of Android it may be harder to find, or it may not be there at all.

What do you mean by "logging off"? Are you meaning you need to unlock the screen after an idle period? (i.e. the screen auto-locks)

Go into Settings and search for Sleep ... your idle time options will be in there. If you enable Developer options then there's an option there to Stay Awake (never sleep whilst charging).

yes that seems to be it. I have looked in settings and I can choose up to 30 minutes idle time, after which it locks and I have to enter password to unlock it, but 30 minutes is longest option available and there does not seem to be a do not lock option. And no option for password None.

Not sure how to enable developer options to make it stay awake

The problem with that is that it will be using battery the whole time it's awake, whereas my solution allows the device to go to sleep but doesn't require a password to wake it up again - but if litterock can't find how to do that (or even if it's possible) then your solution may be better than nothing.

Find the Build Number in Settings and then tap it 7 times. (You'll get a message saying something like "X more presses to enable Developer mode" as you keep tapping it). Once done then you'll find Developer Options in the main Settings menu.

I think that's feasible if you set NO password protection for the lock screen. But that would mean anyone would be able to unlock your phone.

I actually use my fingerprint to unlock my phone (backed up by a PIN code when required - after 3 days of use [without shutting down] or after power on). It's now so ingrained that I don't even bother with the power button - my finger instinctively goes to the fingerprint sensor. :)

Absolutely, which is why I'd never do it, but it seems to be what the OP wants.

Me too, except I use a screen pattern rather than a PIN when a fingerprint isn't enough - I've never actually been able to discern why the phone asks for it when it does, but it's never a significant imposition.

    Remove the password.

My phone (Huawei P9 Lite on Android 7) doesn't allow the use of a screen pattern as the backup for a fingerprint - it only allows a PIN or password.
