All primary schools are full in new area

All being well, I should be moving to a new area in the next few months.
The new town has 3 primary schools. I phoned each of them yesterday and they are all full for the year in which my son is in at the moment.
Having spoken with the admissions dept at the county council, I am told that they will obviously find him a school somewhere, but it might be miles away and that he will have to get a taxi paid by the taxpayers.
Anyone else had experience of this? The school he currently goes to is about 15 miles away from the new house, so it's feasible that I could commute back here for a while until a place came up but I wouldn't want to do it for too long.

This happened to a neighbour of mine a few years ago-they were offered a school place miles away.
When they got the local councillor involved as if by magic a space became available at, albeit not the closest school, but the next closest.

What age is your son? Thats very important. Under 7, there is the infant class size rule which is almost impossible to overtturn. Over 7, its not a big deal for a class to have more than 30 pupils so is easier to appeal.0

Thanks for that. He's in year 5 - 9 years old at present.
One of the schools did tell me that there is an "overflow" school in the town that will take pupils if all the schools are full. However, the admissions people at the county council denied that happens.
