120GB SSD drive full? - Windows 10

Options
Hi

I have a windows 10 Desktop, it has a 120gb SSD.

Im trying to update windows but the SSD is basically full so won't let me, Ive changed the default storage locations to the HD instead, but im sure theres not 120gb worth of files on my SSD, at least not that Ive saved on there myself. I have tried the "compress this drive to save some disk space" option and it didnt really help, I regularly delete unneeded files etc so not quite sure what the issue could be

Im sure its an easy fix, but can anyone think of any ways to help?

Thanks

Try to download and install WinDirStat, it will show graphically what is taking up your space. There may be some kind of file that you can delete that you hadn't realised was hogging the space.

Have you tried the Windows cleanup utility?
Control Panel search "space" and choose 'Clear disk space by deleting unnecessary files'.
When it comes up with a result choose the system files option and let it run again.
There may be a lot of Windows Update files taking up space.
(You can achieve the same thing in the Settings app)

Also see how much space System Restore is taking up.
Also consider disabling Hibernation, even if only temporarily until after the update.
    (CMD(Admin) powercfg -h off)

My tablet has windows 10 and Android installed on a 64GB SSD.

What have you installed? Any major games? Installed a free driving game on my PC last night 23GB download. Something like that would soon eat the space.

I regularly clean up my drive and have just checked and there is over 4GB of Widows Update files sitting there. The most I have had is about 30GB after the half yearly updates so a clean up would be the first place to start.

I presume that when you clean up the updates that none of those files are needed for the update to still work? Or are they superseded and no longer needed? Or something else?

They aren't needed. Useful only if you needed to roll back to a previous version.

Yes it was purchased like that, Chuwi Hi10. There are a few that have the same feature though.

Its perfect for me because it comes with full sized USB ports which i require for diagnostic dongles. Good battery life also.

You can start android and leave it running for days and the battery will still be fine. Not sure how long win10 will last because it shutsdown after a couple of hours. But just playing spider solitaire it does not use much battery life.
