Rental agent chasing 18 month old invoice

I rent a property out through an agent and they’ve just emailed me to advise that they’d never invoiced me for electrical works completed 18 months ago and as their electrician is now chasing payment can they take from our next rental instalment.
I recall the works and getting the quote and on checking back on the old statements they didn’t charge me, there were a number of things they took payment for around this time but not this specifically. It was before letting to a new tenant and a number of things had been done at the house so I’d not scrutinised the list of what had actually been taken from the rental income.
I’m intending to pay them but wondered legally what the stand point is on this and can they even ask after this length of time?

They can ask 50 years later:. But statue of limitations applies, you wouldn't have to pay.
But you do. Or get tsken to court. Fired as a client.****
How would you feel if tenant decided he didn't have to pay for month he'd inadvertently missed paying for 18 months ago? Snippy?
***** When I met the letting agent of a house I was buying 12 years ago she told me she "fired" clients who did things she felt were wrong. Decided that was fine by me. I take her to lunch once a year:. A cheap investment.0 -

The only possible reason you could have had for asking is in the hope that you could wriggle out of paying it. You can't, and if we're snippy it's because we don't like cheats.0 -
The easy way to avoid this sort of thing entirely is to keep track of what you think is supposed to have been done vs what you have been invoiced for. If you don't get the invoice you are expecting within 2-3 months (allow time for the tradesperson to send their invoice on their cycle, then for the agent to wrap it into theirs), give them a nudge a la 'hey, I remember we talked about this, did it get done in the end?'.0
