D_M_E - I shall give this a try later!!
Hengus - unfortunately the conversion on the bill is the same as yours so is therefore correct.0 -
As I said in an earlier post I do think our main issue was February through to July when the reading (according to the smart meter thing in the house) was off the chart. If this is the case and the readings now look normal how to we go about proving a fault that is no longer there?
If your case passes that hurdle then explain things to your gas supplier and invite them to come and inspect your complete installation on the basis that you will pay for the inspection if, and only if, they can find a reasonable explanation for your problem.
Exactly what do you mean by the smart meter thing being off the chart ?0 -
When we first press the button it just says “Credit - On” then when you press it again it says “15804.862m2” which obviously gives us the reading of 15804. If you continue to press the button, nothing happens, it just scrolls through those 2 screens. There is nowhere that it shows kWh as one of you suggested may be the case.
A smart meter would have been installed on 0. It will not have gone round the clock. (are you reading it right, you put m2 not m3!)
When was it installed. Mine was installed in Feb and currently reads 01679.627 m3 and is the same model as yours (and I regard myself as high-ish usage). I on have to press the (middle) button once and it comes up. I ignore the cursors. I guess different suppliers could program them differently.
If your read is right I would say it is programmed wrong and over reading. Of course getting the supplier to believe this will be near impossible unless its the one who installed it. (since they programmed it (or not which may be the issue)).
(niot in the mood to convert mine to kwh but feel free to multiply by 11.1 for a rough figure).0 -
Can you also take meter readings from the main gas meter to check whether the smart meter is giving you the correct readings - I am thinking taking the readings from both main and smart meters and comparing the usage. This will rule out whether the smart meter is faulty and if not, you most likely have a gas leakage that has perhaps stop leaking.0

You have lost me. I think that you may be assuming that the In House Display(IHD) is the smart meter. It isn't. When a smart meter is installed it replaces the meter in your meter box: it is the only meter. The OP has been taking the readings from the actual smart meter. The IHD is nothing more than a device which enables you to monitor your usage. IHDs that show gas usage in kWh may not be 100% accurate because of calorific differences. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. Thanks for that correction - when my smart meter was installed, my house was a new build so I assumed the meter is the old one and the IHD (communication with an adapter installed on the old meter) is the smart meter:-). Apparently, the smart meter was installed as the first and only meter, hence my confusion.0
