Virgin want 30 notice from ME

My contract with Virgin ends on 15 Jan 19.
On 17 Dec 18 i signed up for a deal with NowTV
Please note: 17Dec is EXACTLY 30 before 15Jan.
Today Virgin thanked me for deciding to switch to a new package.
I first sent them a message using their "contact" form.
Then i rang them.
They say that my new supplier only asked for "one service" to be transferred to them
AND
the ONLY way to stop my contract converting to a 30 rolling account from the original contract end date 15 Jan was for ME to phone them.
They added that as i only contacted them today (to give them 30 days notice) they will charge me until 18 Jan,
i.e.
an extra month at non-discounted charges - more than double what i was paying!
Surely when you are transferring to a new supplier the customer agrees a start date with the new supplier and the new supplier tells the old supplier.

NOT with VIRGIN or any other proper FTTP company.
It is up to you to cancel the fibre service with VIRGIN as they use their own infrastructure.0 -

It's great that they tell customers this, highlighting that the broadband they have chosen is somehow "different", and therefore needs to be treated differently, from other broadband options.
Thanks though.
They strangely also have "no record" of me telling them way back in May that i wanted to cancel at the contract end, as i was unhappy with the service. It's a good job they don't allow, or even apparently accept, details about cancelling and not renewing other than by telephone. Otherwise i might have had a copy of what i had told them as proof.
You'd think any half decent regulator might have thought of such ploys and insisted that they have some form of written contact system which can send copies to a customers email.
Any idea if i will be forced to pay for an extra month on everything (tv, phone, bb) please?
Thanks again.Switzerland has Dignitasthe UK has DCA's, Bankers and Lawyers.0 -
its all a bit of a game if you want to transfer your phone number from virgin.
The paperwork is all scary.
I think I rang up and gave 30 days notice (also used it to see if they had a sensible offers) Gave notice, but they left the phone contract going (as I wanted the number)
The paperwork suggests you are tied into a 12m phone contract! but it did all work out ok.
I also moved to Now (3 weeks later as I wanted BB overlap)0 -

Isn't it only an extra 3 days you are paying for ?, originally 15 Jan , now charged till 18 Jan, although they may take a whole month DD, they should refund pro rata the days after 15th Jan0 -
Thanks Andy but ....its all a bit of a game if you want to transfer your phone number from virgin.
The paperwork is all scary.
And the regulator does'nt care ?
Or
The regulator permits this?
Or
The regulator is paid by the number of complaints they get?
Or
....... please specify.Switzerland has Dignitasthe UK has DCA's, Bankers and Lawyers.0 -
