Gladstones Solicitors Scotland

Hi everyone, this is my first post.

So I live in Scotland, and have received a letter from Gladstone Solicitors.

The story I think is as follows;

The driver was running very late for work and when the driver got there realised they didn't have the 50p they needed to pay for parking. They only work for 2.5 hours so decided just to chance it as the cash machine at said drivers place of work only sometimes works, and they would then need to go to the cafe to break the note too, which would mean the driver would miss a lot of work.

So that's the drivers excuses out the way! But yeah I've been fined. Twice... Once was for a different car and the same thing happened, driver had no 50p just card etc. Yes the driver should remember to bring change to work, not run so late etc etc.

Read the 'Newbies' thread and ignored the letters addressed to me and the other car owner as it said to do if you live in Scotland/the fine was in Scotland.

But now I have received a letter from Gladstones Solicitors starting-

'We have been instructed by Horizon Parking Ltd in relation to the above debt
It is our client's case that you are liable for these charges and we would like to draw your attention to the options that our client has in order to recover these from you'

The other car owner has received one too and yeah he isn't best pleased with me...

Should I continue ignoring? These letters seem pretty serious? Am I best to just pay and cut my losses incase it goes to court?

Thanks in advance.

To whom does the Gladstones letter tell you to pay?

Every case in Scotland is advised never to reveal the identity of the driver - please revisit your opening post and edit accordingly. PPCs are not prevented from reading (and copying admissions from) this forum.
Please note, we are not a legal advice forum. I personally don't get involved in critiquing court case Defences/Witness Statements, so unable to help on that front. Please don't ask. .

I provide only my personal opinion, it is not a legal opinion, it is simply a personal one. I am not a lawyer.

  • Umkomaas it's telling me to pay Debt Recovery Plus.

Thank you, edited to be more vague. I assume you said that because I said my place of work? As I obviously didn't use my name.

It's just debt collector rubbish, using pimped out G's letterheads. A well known 'trick' of their despicable trade; we've seen it thousands of times here over the years.

Just file it (never throw away any document suggesting you owe anyone any debt) and ignore.

If you want to know how debt beggars operate and how to deal with them, please read the NEWBIES FAQ sticky, post #4.

You need much more radical surgery applied to your first post. 'I, Me, Myself' should never really apply to any description of a parking event. Use 'The driver' instead.

Take care over any Horizon letter for Scotland. They do court in Scotland but tend to use local help there. Would be surprised if G's have a solicitor qualified in Scots law - but you can ask the Law Society of Scotland if you are in doubt.

GLADSTONES ..... the inventors of the great parking scam

GLADSTONES, probably the most incompetent solicitor in the UK.

What do they mean by "YOU ARE LIABLE ?" are they saying they know who the driver is/was ???? OF COURSE NOT .... they don't have a clue and you are not about to tell them.

    It's a scam .... it's a try on to scare you.

The day that this already trashed dodgy firm are stupid enough to take a Keeper to court in Scotland, they will become a bigger laughing stock than they currently are in England and Wales

Your Sheriffs have yet to experience their sheer incompetence

Take note of IamEmanresu's advice - he has lots of 'inside' information on the legal front. You're not at that stage yet, but if you do get further G's (or other solicitor) 'letters', feel free to come back on this thread (so we have the whole story in one place) for reassurance or further advice.

On a quick skim, your surgery seems to have been successful. :)

  • Okay thanks everyone for the reassurance and help.

Looks like I'll just keep ignoring and filing for now. Hopefully there will be no court letter.
  • Hi I am having the same issue. I have received a letter from Gladstone’s solicitors advising letter before claim. I live in Scotland and have never contacted them and I wasn’t the driver. What happens next should I contact or completely ignore still

    Thank you

You would be much better off starting your own thread rather than tagging onto this old one.
