192.168.1.1 site not secure?

I have now purchased a wifi extender and read that I should log into the router account to set up WPS to use it on other devices.

However, when I type it into the search bar and when I actually log in it is showing NOT SECURE (in red), so I am not sure if I should proceed. Also when following the instructions and I click ADVANCED to enable the WPS, it says that proceeding could affect my broadband.

PLEASE can anyone give any advice on this, as I a complete technophobe.

Is it not possible to use an extender without going through this process?

Many thanks.

Not secure, as it is not running HTTPS perhaps, ignore it as it is your routers default ip for configuration web set up page, and you have to trust it.
  • It's your internal WiFi network IP address so it's not going to to have SSL certification, but it shouldn't be an issue anyway as mentioned above.

  • Trust it, unless your router supports security you may get this each time. Some routers allow https://192.168.1.1:4433 to access it securely

This is 100% nothing to be concerned about. No data entered into it is going anywhere beyond the local network.

But do remember to change the pass word it comes with which is usually User ID = admin Password = admin

Thanks, I didn't know you could do that. Does it give you the option once logged in?

My OH has been trying to make it work without doing the logging into the router thing, but it won't recognise the router or the router won't recognise the extender (well I presume that is the problem anyway).

So will try the logging in thing and if that doesn't work, will give up and send it back for a refund.
