Roof renovation

Options
Does anyone have experience of this, that is cleaning, then a biocide treatment followed by a micro-porous UV coating. Do these coatings last!

Most of these companies are a complete scam. They could easily do more damage than any benefits they create.

Do you have a specific problem with your roof that needs solving?

+1 for scam. I'm struggling to think why a roof covering would need a UV protection coating. All the roof coverings I can think of are designed to last for many years and none of them need to be painted with micro porous UV protection coating.

Someone down my road had the charming "tradesmen" pressure wash his bungalow roof. All they did was blast the sand finish off the concrete tiles probably shortening the life of the tiles not to mention it looks dreadful.
  • Thanks for replies, confirms my thoughts actually. The only problem with my roof is moss in places but a salesman came round the other day and almost convinced me to get a quote but I said I wanted to think about it. Also when I looked at the company website there was no indication how long they had been in business.

So a cold-call at the door offering snake oil, not renovation.

I renovated my roof two years ago. Took all the tiles off, removed the battens and fitted new ones over new membrane, cleaned the tiles (with a brush, not chemicals) and put them back again. Needed scaffolding and took weeks.

That's renovation. The tiles are over 45 years old and good for another 45 without any further treatment.
