MBNA 0% till 2020 on purchases made up to 18th October

Before I ring up (as I am at work and it's a bit difficult), I wonder if anyone could help me. I think I must have gotten confused with some terms and conditions of this credit card.

It said 0% on any purchased made up to 18th October would be 0% until 2020.

I duly stopped using the card on this date, but have just received a statement charging me £53 interest.

So what exactly is the 0% as I haven't used the card after 18th October?

Anyone else have this card and can explain it to me?

  • You need to look at the details of the transactions and the dates - eg whether there was anything outside of the offer, either in terms of transaction type or date.
  • Have you been making the minimum payment?

Were any of the transactions ones that would be treated as a 'cash' transaction?

You have been making your minimum payments?

Yes. £25 each month. And was about to make another £25 for this month when I discovered the interest charge.

What equates as cash? They were all payments with my card either in store or online.

Thanks. I am going to print off my statement and double check things. But as far as I know everything was a normal transaction and before the date stipulated.

  • Cash can potentially be cash withdrawals, currency, gambling, pay off loans or other credit, gift cards, etc.

Is this your first statement - ie did you previously have a zero balance? If so, what is your current balance?

Cash could be foreign currency purchase, gambling etc

The last page of your statement should detail what promotional offers you have....what does it say?

Phew. Turns out it was a banking error.

They refunded some money back to me last month and this overrode the promotional deal.

I have been told that I will be refunded the £50 odd and also the estimated interest for next month.

On my statement, it said my minimum payment was £79, but the lady on the phone said that I only had to pay £25 as this is what it would be if the error never occurred.

Can't decide whether to just pay the £79 on the statement as I don't want another reason for the promotional offer to fail.
