Buying theatre vouchers as xmas gift advice

Hi, I am wanting to buy some theatre vouchers for someone for xmas, i am a bit confused about what type are best though.

Buying ticket master vouchers from the likes of asda is really easy but are they any good, do they pretty much include all theatres?

I have also read that theatre tokens are a better alternative but i don't know much about this?
I looked on the site regarding tokens and i was left a little puzzled. i selected Manchester for instance and it lists all the theatres in the area, but only the very first one says any shows are available, then all the others don’t mention any shows being available, so does that mean that only the first theatre has anything available they you can use 'tokens' with but the others have nothing? If anyone could advise me that would be great, i really want some kind of voucher that can be used in pretty much all the theatres.
