Querying electrician charge

We had a similar problem about 10 years ago after having a new kitchen.
We suspected that the integrated fridge was making the CU trip, called our usual electrician, who sent one of his workers. The guy tried the fridge point, said 'it's not the fridge' and b*****ed off.
We then had a bill for about £45. An irate phone call to the boss, who had had our business for years, sorted it.Member #14 of SKI-ers club
Words, words, they're all we have to go by!.
(Pity they are mangled by this autocorrect!)0 -
I would have thought £50 ish for a call out is reasonable. The electrician did what you requested.
They have to travel to you, and lose out on another job while they are with you. £24 for a call out is very cheap - and I suspect this electrician or his friends won't do work for you again1 -
You could not make it up , money saving expert , or just tight as a gnats chuff?Never, under any circumstances, take a sleeping pill and a laxative on the same night.1

I work for an electrician and we get customers kvetching about this kind of thing all the time. I am always very clear about the charges involved. £48 is not expensive when you consider his costs of a van, insurance, qualifications/registrations etc
I have just had a woman be rude to me on the phone because she wanted her Christmas lights sorting today - she isn't an existing customer and we have been fully booked for weeks because of Christmas. We finish on Friday and this lady has gone on my "naughty list" which is made up of people who don't pay and those who don't value what our qualified, insured and trained electricians have to offer!1 -

I'm not sure I would agree, and generally I do speak up on behalf of tradespeople. The electrician, according to the OP, doesn't seem to have used any of their specialist knowledge, skills or equipment to determine the cause of the fault.
So because the skills weren't used then they are irrelevant? Don't cost money?
Huh.
I agree with other posters, OP is now on a list and it ain't the nice list.63 mortgage payments to go.
Zero wins 2016 😥1
