Capital One 0% Blance TF with no handling fee?

Some info for anyone interested in this card mentioned as one of the last True no cost balance transfer cards

I applied for this card and it took Capital One 2 weeks to respond and they sent through an application form for an alternative card for 0% balanc TF but with a 3% handling fee-

So it looks like this offer has gone- I declined their card and put all of the paperwork into their priority handling envelope and sent it back to them -!!

The offer is still there but you have what they define as an "excellent" credit rating (which includes having less than £10K of total available card credit). Even users who match their excellent criteria are often getting rejected. They are being very picky about this card. It has been discussed at length on the stoozing site.

Got my card through last week and I had £17400 in available credit when I applied.

Mind you, they only gave me a £4000 limit. Thankfully it was only a couple of hundred pounds under what I needed to transfer.

We have had a cap one card with a small credit balance for a few years now(a refund which was applied after we stopped using the card)if we asked them, what are the chances of getting a 0% bt?. Also if you have as we do other unused cards is it wise to close hem down or retain them?
    Thanks for any info

I think Clariman meant to say "less than £10K of credit card balances", ie used credit.

However, I understand (from stoozing.com forum postings) that some people have been successful with higher levels of debt than this...so it's not 'written in stone'. :)

As an existing customer, you're not eligible for Capital One's heavily advertised 0% balance transfer offers, which are aimed at drawing in new customers.

Your best bet is to phone Customer Services and ask to close the account. Cap One will write to confirm closure and send you a cheque to cover your small credit balance.

You are then eligible to apply for a new C1 card straight away ;)

Note: this applies only to Capital One. Most lenders will not consider applications from former customers in under 6 months.

It is a good idea to close unused cards as it shows up on your credit file as 'available credit.'

It may not necessarily stop you getting new cards, but it will probably effect the credit limit they give you.
