Sewerage Drains on Driveway

Options
Currently getting a new block paving driveway laid, workmen have just left, just had a peep and realised the sewerage drains that were there are no longer visable and have been blocked paved over.

I assumed they would fit those metal drain trays and block pave into them. Obviously I will discuss this with them tomorrow morning however I was wondering if I missing something obvious here?

What did you agree to do about the drains when you asked them to quote?
For every complex problem there is an answer that is clear, simple and wrong.
  • The written quote says "3x recess drain covers" at £250 each. That's all it says. I know nothing about drains and block paving but I assumed I would see some kind of metal outline but no they seem to have completely vanished, stressing about it now.

Hopefully you haven't paid the full bill yet. You've paid for them by the sounds of it, so its up to them to sort it out.

there might be a bit of an issue with inserting them now its all laid - lining up with whole bricks - but there will be others here no doubt that know more about it than me.

i'd perhaps be a little concerned at what other shortcuts they might have made.

I think if it's raining there now you want to make sure you don't see any puddles/pooling....
  • I haven't paid yet, they haven't finished, they are coming back tomorrow so I will discuss fully with them. Was just wanting some advice before confronting them. I thought maybe there was another type of drain cover which was less visible.

I've not heard of any truly invisible covers, at the very minimum you need some kind of key hole in order to be able to lift the cover up.

Making to cover too well hidden can cause problems if you get a blockage as the (very expensive) drain clearing people will spend valuable time trying to locate the covers.... whilst the sewage carries on bubbling up in your house or garden. :(

Don't allow yourself to be fobbed off. You asked them to do the covers properly, and that is what you should expect them to do.

  • Ah damn :( Looks like it's a problem, thought it was all going too well! Nevermind will try and get it sorted out tomorrow
  • What did they say this morning?
  • It was my mistake, they said they lay all the driveway with all the right cuts and then lift the stones, install the recess drain and put the stones back as it gives a neater job so panic over it was a misunderstanding on my part.
