eribar wrote:...In reply to your question I authorised a purchase with a maximum spend of £5, you may think it to be low but that was what I wanted to set and there is nothing on the conditions of the Cahoot web card to say there is a lower limit. In fact I don't think there is an actual lower limit, the best I got was "about £10." don't they know?As for getting a refund, they did not offer one,and the point is, the card should not have been able to be used again, or am I missing the point of a "one time" card?
Regarding CPA see this thread: Regular Payments off a Credit Card Discussion . This cannot be stopped by cancelling a card.0 -

Most of my dealings are over the internet so I do not get bills through the post and bills printed off the internet are not acceptable.
I only get one water bill a year but they say it is out of date even though it shows all of my monthly payments as is my rates bill. Tax documents are archived with my accountant and not easy to get.
I think these banks need to have people with some inteligence who can make a decision. One of the documents rejected was actually a Certificate of Residence from the Inland Revenue provided for proving just that!
I will probably end up telling them to "stuff their account where the sun don't shine"
So if you are like me and travel a lot so have deliberately set up your life on the internet you will soon find you are an unacceptable person or branded as a possible money launderer.
Any ideas Martin how we can get these institutions to introduce flexibility and common sense. Great site always my first port of call.

they replied yes it's satisfactory, so thats what I do just incase I have to take anything back, Hence I printed their message off and keep it to use in future, I'm sure trading standards would take this up!Clearvisor,0 -
Is it just me or do other spenders think that Mastercard guarantees all purchases?
:rolleyes:0 -
I think it is just you ...
What do you mean by saying 'guarantees all purchases'?
P.S. If you mean online purchases, then you are right: majority of CC companies offer some protection, not Mastercard or Visa.0 -
I've had a Cahoot current account for years and subscribed to the webcard about a year ago. However it never worked for me. Cahoot's support was absolutely hopeless so I gave up with it. I only tried using it online as I didn't even realise you could use it for phone purchases but it was always declined. Seemed like a good idea but ....
If it's successful how come no other banks have followed suit!!!0 -
I've never had a problem with it. I'm aware of its limitations (thanks to this thread) but it continues to work great for many of the sites I use.
IMO, other banks won't follow suit unless there's a viable revenue stream involved. Most, if not all the benefits are with the customer.0 -
I used and continue to try to use my webcard.
I keep finding it refused. In fact I don't think I've found it accepted yet.
Presumably retailers worry about it expiring soon in case they decide to charge extra or refund?
Also,
the remote login is also now withdrawn so there is no choice but to risk the insecurity of Windows - so keep it tight.
It's frustrating. I wanted to use this after a friends account was emptied by AOL - as he put it, although there are rules the practicality is that they have carte-blanche; this was a direct debit, however.Order of events: Banks lose our money -> get bailed out -> were inflating GBP to cover it -> now taxing us -> next will grab your funds direct -> things get really desperate to balance the books. What should have happened?: banks go bust and we lost our money much quicker0 -
My first post so please forgive any errors. Has anyone experience of myvouchercodes.com or of a web-site called[I believe] 2 for 1? Are they legit.? Many thanks in advance for any assistance.0

Hi all,
I've been a long-term Webcard user (since it's first release), and have had good and bad experiences with it. There were a number of retailers (Lego in particular) who rejected it in the early years, however these issues appear to have been fixed and I haven't had any problems using it with a number of small and large organisations over the last 18 months, in particular PayPal/eBay
Being a Firefox and Linux user for the last 12 months or so, I also contacted Cahoot and Orbiscom (the technology provider) about making the Webcard work on non-Windows platforms, unfortunately they were unable to give me any useful information. Being a software engineer I decided to do something about it and wrote a GreaseMonkey script for Firefox (and other browsers) which makes the basic Webcard work provided the browser has Flashplayer 5+ installed:
Script available here: http://userscripts.org/scripts/show/20732
Firefox users: (and other Gecko based browsers), you need to install the GreaseMonkey add-on to enable user scripts.
Safari users: See these instructions: http://www.simplehelp.net/2007/11/14/how-to-run-greasemonkey-scripts-in-safari/
NB: I haven't tested this on Safari, as I don't have a Mac!

I have been using the Cahoot webcard for a long time and absolutely love it. It is so easy to generate a card and the number generated is only valid for one transaction. If anyone stores your card details and they get into the wrong hands, the details are no use as they can only be used once.
I have heard that Cahoot may be going to withdraw this service which would be a real shame. I have also heard that a company called Orbiscom has put together something for banks to use that does this and is rolling it out to banks in Ireland and US. American Express have started it in the US but not in the UK yet and Citibank in Ireland use it I believe. Does anyone know of any other bank than Cahoot that offer something like this in the UK? If Cahoot does pull the plug, I really want to find another bank that offers it in the UK.0
