Someone please help with out really slow broadband..

Apologies for not searching this first but it really is that slow it's taken 20 mins for the page to load up. Basically it takes anything from 5-10 mins for anything to load, we are with Virgin media and on ringing them twice they just keep asking us to do a speed checker test which as the pc is so slow is impossible, it is currently running at 1mb instead of 8 and if it does get to the point of loading it then crashes and says page unavailable?
My partner thinks it may be the router or the filter box? as the laptop is slow but not as bad..please help as giving up the will to live here!

What anti-virus, firewall, anti-spyware/malware packages are you using? Are they up to date? You say that it's running at 1mb but even running at half that speed, it should not take that long to fully load pages. See the spyware/malware removal sticky at the top of this board.

WOW 1Mb you lucky thing I wish I had that speed, sound as if its a prob with p.c. not broadband. Check your drives for usage and see if you can free up some space.
