Hermes delivery problem (2)

I ordered my father a christmas present - from a company called Universal Textiles in Leicester
They told me on Saturday - that my goods had been dispatched and gave me a Hermes tracking number
This number - when used on Hermes - tells me that there are NO DETAILS TO TRACK YOUR NUMBER
I have been on to Hermes - who tell me that UT have not yet delivered the goods to them
UT tell me that they have and Hermes must have mislaid them
What should I do next ?
I paid by debit card - and my contract is with UT ?

  • IME tracking can lag and take some time to update, particularly over a weekend. I would leave it another day or two, but in the meantime go back to UT and ask them to double check the tracking details.

Your contract is with UT and it's them that should do any chasing up.

UT claim that my order was handed over to Hermes on Friday 14th December !!
Ordered on Thursday 13th - paid extra for 2 day delivery.
UT are extremely hard to get a response from - the phone is unanswered and email is ignored

Have you tried the tracking number again this morning. What normally happens is the sender will be allocated a delivery and tracking number before the package has been picked or handed over to the courier, this could be a matter of days, even longer if you take a weekend into account. There will always be a delay between you getting the tracking no. and the parcel starting to make it's way through the delivery network, more so at this time of year.

Yes and believe it or not - five minutes after I tweeted Hermes to ask them to confirm that they had not got my parcel - it appears (delivery tomorrow) !!

We use a business service with DHL for a lot of our shipping - even that doesn't update until the goods have been collected from the premises, scanned by the driver and then linked to DHL's server. A collection made late afternoon may not show in DHL tracking until the following morning.

I'd imagine other couriers will have similar mechanisms, and which may be updated less frequently.
