Unexpectedly drop-in to tenants?

On the whole I do not mind in the slightest if people just pop round, I personally find it less stressful than a pre-arranged appointment. Because if I have an appointment I HAVE to get the place looking nice, myself dressed up etc., whereas if they just pop in they have to take me as I am.
If it's really not convenient I'll say so.
But I know I'm in a minority here, so I'll just have to accept that most people don't see it that way.

Very interested in this thread. We are letting a house for the first time and I was thinking of leaving a bottle of wine (or a plant) and a card in the house for the tenants when they move in. (And possibly sending a Christmas card). I don't want to call on them but want things to get off on the right footing and after that stand back, leave it up to them and the letting agent. No I am wondering if it's the right thing to do?0

I think the OP's decision to leave the choccies and a welcome card in the house at the start of the tenancy is a great idea.
It shows that you are not only nice landlords, but nice landlords who respect other people's privacy.

I think leaving welcome gifts in the house is a great idea. That lets them know you're interested in them being happy in their new home, without invading on their privacy to do it. I'm not sure about the Christmas card - maybe wait until you find out how they're looking after the property & see if they're paying the rent on time first.Very interested in this thread. I think the OP's idea of leaving a box of choccies and a card in the house is a really nice one - if I found that when I moved in I'd be pretty chuffed! Obviously being contactable for the important bits like repairs etc is key, but this is a nice gesture and I hope your tenants appreciate it - good to hear a landlord story on here that doesn't involve deposits, small claims, and broken heating!2015 comp wins - £370.25

Thanks to everyone who posts freebies and comps! :j0
