Sea lice

Friends who have just returned from Mexico apparently couldn't stop itching when they were in the sea, apparently they were victims of sea lice, the larvae of jellyfish which get inside your swimwear, and have the rash to prove it, I haven't heard of it before, I don't know if anyone else has, but if you are going to Florida or Mexico certain times of the year it can be prevalent.

Forewarned is forearmed.
you can read about it here.

Sorry to extend this post....not only does everyone need to be aware of Sea Lice but there are other nasties waiting to get you in Florida!!!!!

In June 2004 we went to Orlando we did the usual Disney, other parks and a few beach day trips...Cocoa Beach.

When we arrived back one....I began to notice a small tingling in my foot....and by the end of the week I was in terrible pain! Went to hospital and was given antibiotics and the doc told me to return daily to ensure the swelling didn't go up my leg. Next day I went back and the doc on duty immediately looked at the foot and said THERE IS SOMETHING IN THERE!

I had been bitten/some thing had laid her babies in me- larvae! It was disgusting. After much attention (larvae extracted and a 3 day stay in Hospital I was on the road to recovery......

The doc said that it could have been picked up in a Water Park and that if I returned to Florida etc to wear water socks etc......

That must have been a worrying time for you, how awful :-(

Another annoying little pest is the love bug, usually in May and I think September also, we were driving up from Fort Myers and the windscreen wipers wouldn't clear them, hundreds of them all making love, we had them in the apt, everywhere, and they fly in huge packs you can see them approaching they look like a big cloud, some years are worst than others, it was a bad year when we were there. you need to pick your time when to go,what with hurricanes, bugs etc unfortunately the best months are during winter and are the most expensive.
