They understood, were sympathetic, gave me a £3 credit, but were unable to help. It seems to be a fault with the system and I was unable to get them to take it further.
Amazon might be using a third party call centre was the impression I got, and I don't know any other way to contact them.

I have managed to get paid completely for only one of my recent cards. I think each time they take the authorisation £ it resets and the wait starts again.

It wouldn't go past the station entry for me in Chrome but on a brand new Firefox install it worked perfectly.
