Broken appliances when moved in

Hi there folks
Me and my partner have recently moved into a new flat and are having issues already with the letting agency. When we viewed the flat we were very pleased by the fact it had an extractor hood and dishwasher, unlike our old flat. It now appears that neither of these work. There is a separate issue that they only provided one set of keys and we cannot get them duplicates ourselves due to the type of key. They also didn't tell us untill we got the keys that the electricity was on a PAYG but this post is not about those.
We have been trying to contact the letting agency via email x3 that they haven't responded to in a month. We are now trying to contact them by phone.
I am worried that they will simply shrug and say 'not our responsibility to repair the electrical goods'. I have noticed it appears to say that in the contract. I have never rented anywhere that wouldn't repair or replace these things before. However, the extractor and dishwasher never worked in the first place. Surely this is false advertising to some degree. We very well may not have rented this flat if we knew they didn't work.
Any comments much appreciated.

The letting agent isn't responsible, your landlord is. That said, there is no legal requirement to provide a dishwasher. There is a separate issue that they only provided one set of keys and we cannot get them duplicates ourselves due to the type of key. - Not sure what you expect the landlord to do? Just change the lock and you'll have as many keys as you want They also didn't tell us untill we got the keys that the electricity was on a PAYG but this post is not about those. - irrelevant. The meters are not owned by the landlord.
We have been trying to contact the letting agency via email x3 that they haven't responded to in a month. We are now trying to contact them by phone. - As opposed to writing a letter to the address in your tenancy agreement (the only official way to report issues)

Write to your landlord, hope he replaces the dishwasher.
the extractor may be a required repair if ventilation is poor.0 -
Have you reported the repairing issues in writing to the address provided for the landlord?
What does the inventory say about the faulty items? Have you corrected it (if appropriate) and signed it?
What does the tenancy agreement say about repairing obligations?0
