Replacing WIN 10

A couple of years ago I stupidly bought my grandchildren two Medion(Aldi) laptops with Win10 preloaded. I discovered later that they only had a 32GB SSD.
The original Win 10 and all the subsequent updates have now filled the disc and won’t even load the latest updates after deleting just about everything else to make space.
Is it possible to delete Win 10 completely and use another OS to free up space to download browser and word processor etc – the PCs are only to be used for schoolwork. However given they are only 10 years old is it feasible for them to use this OS.
If so do you have any recommendations? and how does one go about downloading another OS AFTER deleting Win 10/Edge?

you may be better having larger ssd hard drives fitted , school children prefer windows to other systems , you need to find out if the laptops do actually have drives and are they replaceable0

Add amemory card or USB stick?
Windows 10 wont be using all 32GB, you can strip it down a lot.
Remove all those old recovery and restore files.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
if they're SATA SSD's, they're cheap enough to buy nowadays - try mymemory.co.uk. Buy a drive, a caddy and free cloning software, clone the old drive then stick the new drive in.
Not so easy if its emmc memory though. Linux is an option but it is different enough from windows to perhaps annoy the kids!0 -
most cheaper laptops come with integrated 32Gb eMMC chips that are on the motherboard and cant be upgraded...
My sister bought my son a HP one last xmas that only has a 32Gb, and about 28Gb is actually usable, and this is part of the motherboard..
with the last few updates no matter what I try I couldn't get it below about 25gb used, and now the entire thing hangs on updates as it runs out of room downloading..
So I 'found' a copy of win10 lite online and installed that..
it only takes up about 12Gb..0 -
Depends on the laptop sometimes you can replace the 32Gb modules but if you can, it won't be cheap.0

I stripped my granddaughter's useless EePC* and gave her our previous laptop, an HP Dv7, removed the DVDRW, put a 128GB SSD in the DVD housing for the O/S and more memory. Left the 320GB spinner in place. Still working about 3 years later.
The EePC had, surprisingly, a 320GB spinner, a tiny thing spinning at 540 RPM. I put that in a USB caddy and use it occasionally.
*Windows Basic: horrible.I think this job really needs
a much bigger hammer.

My wife uses a netbook with 32Gb of storage but I added a 64gb micro USB memory stick and pointed all storage to it.
The 32Gb of storage is just enough to run (and more importantly) update Windows 10 but you have to remove virtually all other programs to do so.
I've downloaded portable versions of Libre Office and Foxit etc onto the memory stick to keep the on board storage as empty as possible.
Don't give in. It's possible to run Windows 10 on it, it just needs some patience to do so.0 -
I've got a 7 year old Acer Iconia tab with only 32Gb of storage quite happily running Windows 10 and updating as needed , so it can be done ...0

64GB tablet has windows 10 and android installed, can also take micro SD cards and USB drives.
Not needed to add additional storage yet.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
You can just clean install Windows 10 to them, removing the existing Recovery Partition and bloat.
