Excellent, we've got to the bottom of that then.

I can't see any reason not to use your current living address for HMRC and the bank. It is, after all, where you are currently living, and it's not hard to update if / when you move (along with driving licence and a whole heap of other 'official' stuff).

What you do with your sales pages is a whole other matter.

Got VAT and UTR confused a few times, mean UTR number and not VAT.
Found a web page that helps with understanding things called 'the company warehouse', they have a page called 'register as sole trader' which helps understand a lot clearer but won't be using their service.
It would help someone by reading it for 5 minutes, it explains a lot!

There is no register of sole trader businesses in the UK. There are in many other countries but not in the UK (only requirement is to tell HMRC of your business activities and any trading names you use).

Speaking in general and not particularly about the company you refer to, be very wary of companies who offer to register a sole trader business for a fee. It is a well known ploy and sometimes a down right scam. Even companies who offer to do it for free you should also be wary of and I would carefully read their terms and conditions as the "register" could be a business directory where names of start-ups are sold as leads to marketing companies.

Many people use their accountants' address for a small fee. Depending on the set up you may be able to use it for returns too. A business centre specially for small or new businesses may also work as they have flexibility in their terms. Good luck Humdinger
  • I used a company to setup my business (1st formations) and they did everything for £50, then I got a cash back deal for opening a Barclays business account for £50 (not sure if they still do this as was a few years ago) They can register you at a ‘virtual office address" and you can setup mail forwarding if needed but at an extra cost. Like mentioned above - unlikely you need to register for vat until you hit the threshold
  • One of the best things I did before starting my business was write a business plan. You can find templates online.
