Bank closed my account without reason

Options
Hi
I switched my bank accounts for the switch bonus
After the switch was complete i tried to use my new card but it was not working so i asked my new bank what is the problem so they told me that they refused me.
Now i dont have any bank accounts anymore and my money what was in my account is lost
How much compensation can i ask from the new bank

You can ask for whatever you want but you won't get it.

Why did your new bank "refuse" you?

Ask your old bank to find the money lost.

No "compo" for you, I fear.

The FOS won't deal with a complaint until either 8 weeks has passed or the complainant has received a "final response."

So good job but no biscuit for you i'm afraid.

How bizarre that the OP's first thought is compensation rather than to get a functioning current account up and running before direct debits start to bounce because that's what I'd do. Then I'd find out why my new current account was closed down before it even got started. Is it a simple case of not passing affordability/credit referencing or is it something more sinister like suspected fraud?

    How much have you lost?
How much compo do you want?

Question, why did you change banks?
  • I lost around 1000 pounds
    I want 150 pounds compensation
I switched for the switch bonus

Why did the bank close down your account after opening it? The money from your old account isn't lost, it will be in a holding account somewhere and unless it's being held due to money laundering or some other nefarious reason you should be entitled to it under the Current Accoubt Switch guarantee. Have you contacted either the original bank or the bank you were moving to about recovering the money?

You haven’t lost £1,000. It will be returning to your previous one. That is if you did not close it.

You wants never gets. You have not lost anything. Compensation returns you to where you would have been.

How many times have you switched? In forty years I’ve only switched once!
