Vouchers to buy furniture?

Hi,

I have give a council house (flat) a friend told me there is something called community care grant or something like that, that you apply for and you get given money or vouchers to buy furniture for your flat.
I searched but couldn’t find anything.
I need to buy well all the stuff a house needs...
Does anyone know of anything?
I get universial credit but its very low so it doesnt really help me to buy stuff.

Thank you for any and all help.

You maybe able to get budgeting advance but this will need to be paid back. You also need to have been claiming UC for at least 6 months. How much you can get will depend on your circumstances.

You may also be able to get vouchers from your local council to pay for household items. See link for information on this.

Check on your council's website under 'welfare provisions', the amounts available are limited and only given in certain circumstances.

In an emergency, your local Authority might provide you with basic furniture, indeed this is more likely than letting you buy items yourself. Alternatively, check https://www.frn.org.uk

Also look under here or similar organisations,

    It's nothing , not nothink.
  • Freecycle or local Facebook groups are great for getting the things that you need - furniture, lamps and rugs, cutlery and plates, pans, towels, bedding, etc. I've had a few things and have also offered stuff. On our local FB pages there are at least two or three requests a week for people moving into their first/new homes.

Hi. I would also ask friends and relatives.
Also places like charity shops, some sell electrical stuff.
At least all you need is a cooker , bed and kettle. Bed doubles up as somewhere to sit, kettle for hot water for drinks and washing.
Don't confuse needs with wants, that is why places such as Brighthouse survive.
I know of 2 people who filled their house with stuff people loaned /have donated to them. OK it wasn't the most up to date, nor was to their taste but they coped.
    Good luck
Find out who you are and do that on purpose (thanks to Owain Wyn Jones quoting Dolly Parton)

Community care grants ended in England & Wales some years ago.

    Do you live in Scotland?

Alice Holt Forest situated some 4 miles south of Farnham forms the most northerly gateway to the South Downs National Park.
