Need Cheap Hotel Nr Central London (with free parking)

Taking the family to London for 1 night only beginning of December.
I just want somewhere mega cheap that will allow me travel into London, the next day.

I am hoping to visit Harrods Santa Grotto or any other that anyone recommends..

We will be spending the whole day (Sunday) in London.

I will probably need 2 rooms, as there are 6 of us.. 2 adults, and 4 children (4,5,16 &17)

Looked at Travelodge but that was in barking, found a cheap Hotel in Croydon but was worried about how far it is from there to Oxford St.

On a Sunday, would I have to pay Congestion charges and would it be possible to park the car in or around central London?

Thanks in advance

Debbie

    No

    Most probably.

You could park In Hyde Park on the South Carriage drive
(I'm not a Londonner so don't know how busy that will be)
This weekend Sunday 11th is Remembrance Sunday

    Harrods
Opening times 10:00 Saturday, 12 Noon Sunday

Travelodge are doing a lot of rooms for £19, don't know if there are any available though.

What is your budget, it is difficult to suggest anything without knowing it?

Croydon is a long way out, is it even on the tube network? I use the Wimbledon Morden Travelodge quite a bit, it has free parking and is about a 15 minute walk form the tube station.

    No congestion charge on Sundays.

Where are you driving from? Is it possible to do a a day trip?
    .....

  • Gys,

    Thanks for your promptness !

I was hoping to stay somewhere pretty central to Oxford St. As there are 6 of us.. i assume we're going to need 2 rooms.
Was hoping not to pay more than £45 per room.
I was looking at Travelodges but no availabilities... Maybe a B&B with parking..

I will be travelling up from Folkestone.

Maybe somewhere near a major tube line or something, would be great!

Croydon you can hop on the train takes 15 mins into Victoria and trains are really frequent. You'd be able to buy a travelcard and if there's several of you the pay for 2 and 4 travel deal may work for you. Knightsbridge is an easy busride from Victoria.
Morden is MUCH further timewise as it stops everywhere enroute (used to live in both areas) where as the East Croydon fast trains (run about every 15 mins) make one stop.
Great shopping in Croydon too and the museum is fun for kids and free.
Frankly the central London B&Bs at the low end are fleapits and won't do free parking. I'd seriously consider Croydon tube from Victoria to Oxford Street is 2 stops and as i said before you can get an all zone rail/travelcard to include the rail and tube/bus all day. Trains run til really late (gone midnight) so you could make a late night of it and the rail is busy and safe travelling home-unlike certain parts of the tube.
Travelling time East Croydon station to Victoria 15 mins-walk to tube 2 mins(is adjacent) Victoria line to Oxford circus 5 mins, You may find https://www.tfl.gov.uk useful as it has a travel planner for all methods of transport within London.

  • have you booked the trave lodge yet? just to say i stayed at croydon earlier in the year, its really really close to the tube station and takes less than 30 mins to get into london. parking isnt free tho but no massively expensive and is cheaper through the hotel
  • Nothing booked yet - so would welcome ur choice in Croydon.
How much was parking 4 the day?

    thanks
  • think it was £12 through the hotel but its probably best to give them a call
  • Most (?all) parking meters are free in London on Sundays and other than west end ffree from 1:30 on Saturdays

Was up there last weekend and parked near Bayswater road paid for an hour from 12-30 so all day parking for £3
    TANSTAAFL !
