Smart Meter Switching
I had Smets1 smart meters fitted by Npower. When I moved to One Select they became dumb. One Select has gone bust and I am now being transferred to Together Energy. I wish I'd waited to have a Smets2 meter installed as they stay active even if you switch - I understand they are being rolled out from now. Apparently Smets1 meters will be upgraded "by the end of 2019" so they can stay active when we switch suppliers. My electricity meter is annoyingly in a neighbour's property (too complicated to move it) so it was handy having the in home display panel showing me the meter readings. Does anybody know of any suppliers who can work with NPower's Smets1 meters so I can switch to them? For example I read that Bulb can work with about one third of Smets1 meters. Does anybody know of any suppliers who would replace my Smets1 with a Smets2 meter? Contacting the call centres is hopeless as customer service staff don't have a clue and just spout platitudes about future rollouts and your meter "may not work smartly if you switch to us." I don't want to go back to Npower as they do two credit searches, one per fuel (most utility companies don't) and this has a big impact on a credit file. It's incredibly hard to get concrete information - can anyone help?
