Strong Cannabis smell from neighbours above?

I'm just talking extractor fans really. The one in the kitchen being above the oven, and the one in the bathroom being to let the moisture out.

I'm assuming these should only be a one way system, but I do know cannabis is quite a strong smell, and wouldn't surprise me if it's strong enough to still come through. I'm unable to smell this in my bedroom or living room where I have windows and no extractor fans.

This might be due to your flat being well draught-proofed and so the extraction system ends up pulling air in from the neighbouring property via the gaps around pipes, etc. This would be consistent with the smell being apparent in rooms where there are pipe runs.

If it is finding its way to you through the extract system itself as you suspect then this might indicate inadequate flow again due to good draught-proofing.

If either were the case, a possible solution would be to open trickle vents or crack open a window to allow the extractors to draw in air, assuming that you aren’t already doing so. Not ideal having to do this at all times in winter but perhaps at times of day when the neighbour tends to ‘flame up’?
