Repairing filing cabinet locking device

Would a locksmith be able to repair a 4 drawer filing cabinet locking device? Part of the side structure on drawer 3 has broken and hangs down which means the drawer won't shut fully.

As the side of the cabinet is against a wall and too heavy to pull out I,m unsure whether the fault is in the lock mechanism or the drawer sliding mechanism.

Any clues how a non dIY person can resolve this please?

post a picture if you can but it almost certainly needs to come out to repair. usually you can "walk" a very heavy filing cabinet out of its location.

It doesn't sound like something a 'locksmith' would do. These days they are mainly skilled in getting people back into their houses if they get locked out, and replacing locks with a new one out of a packet.

If the fault is with the filing cabinet mechanism (either the locking system or the anti-tip mechanism) then it won't be a case of replacing a faulty lock.

I think you would need an office furniture repair specialist.

But I have a feeling the cost of the repair would exceed the cost of buying a new filing cabinet, especially if you try a shop which sells second-hand office furniture.
