Homeswapper tenancy

Hello

I am desperately seeking advice! I am about to complete a mutual exchange between two housing association properties. The thing that most attracted me to this property that I want to move to is the lady that lives there having a secure tenancy. I have previously done a mutual exchange my first property was secure and I. Moved to a flat that had an assured tenancy which I inherited when I moved. My problem now is the housing association of the house I wish to move to have stated that they won’t offer me the current tenants secure tenancy but instead say I will get assured non short hold. Which means I don’t have right to buy. Am I being taken for a ride? Can they do this? She has been in the house for 30 yrs and has quite a big discount so passing this onto me would mean me getting the house if I wanted to buy for quite a significant amount cheaper and they would loose money? The housing association purchased the house from the council 2 years ago and apparently the current tenants tenancy was an agreement between herself and the council. Any advice is welcome thanks

You cannot inherit a rtb discount from the previous tenant. Any discount would be based in your time in social housing.
  • Paragraphs....

Why do you think tax-payers should be subsiding you with any discount to buy it? (I'm asking a calm polite question, not in any way criticizing anybody.)

    Think HA sound absolutely correct.

The Op isnt looking to discuss Govt Policy, they want advice on their current situation. Asking whether they agree with tax-payers funding RTB is totally irrelvent.

I looked into doing a swap via the homeswapper website last year. I spoke to both housing assoc involved. They assured me i would have the RTB if i transferred. The discount would be based on the length i have been in social housing. I decided not to go through it, but it certinly seemed possible and was confirmed by the HA involved.

Reported the post calling the OP an 'attention seeking troll'.

I don't believe you can MX on an AST so it's unlikely thats what they are offering you. A fixed term tenancy possibly.

But you lost your right to buy when you did your last swap in the traditional sense. You won't get it again. You may get a different type of right to buy if its introduced in the area you move to or the right to aquire if the property fits the criteria.

But you will never inherit someones 30year RTB history
  • Well, it looks like we've got 2 for the price of 1 on this thread now :rotfl:

have I been doing things wrong all my life??? ..worked hard saved for deposit , went without and sacrificed my soul to now be where I am in late middle age, when in reality there was a short cut that I should have thought about years ago.

This RTB and discounts and the like seems like a god given right, must have passed me buy
  • No baby, you did it the right way :T

Not sure I did if there was another way.!!!

Just really annoys me when some people (not necessarily the OP) just seem to have no qualms about how they get to the prize as long as they get it in the easiest way possible

Those are the ones that complain about higher earners not paying enough tax and being 'fat cats', the irony
