....to Pattaya and Langkawi are starting soon from Birmingham, Gatwick and Manchester, could be good if you fancy a winter package holiday.

    It's only a taxi-ride from Bangkok.

I've flown long haul with TUI and have to say they were very good. Much more comfy than BA.

Agreed, Pattaya is truly an awful place these days. But the airport is actually 'U-Tapao Rayong Pattaya International Airport' (or variations) UTP.

U-Tapao airbase was built by the Americans during the Vietnam war for their B52 bombers, so the runway is long enough to handle the Airbus A380. It's now used by the Royal Thai Navy and more recently for civil aviation.

UTP is not particularly near Pattaya and it gives easy access to the other (Eastern) direction with its attractive beaches and Islands.

If I want a beach in Thailand, then I'd head staight to Ao Maneo Beach, which is inside the Wing 5 Royal Thai Airforce Base, on the southern edge of Prachuap Khiri Kahn.

It's 4 hours by train from Bangkok along the Gulf Coast 70km south of Hua Hin. A perfect sheltered beach in a unique location. Hire a pushbike from PKK, and you even have to cycle across the Air Base runway to reach it.

Food courts across the road from the beach, plenty of shelter, sun beds and parasols, quiet during the week, not so at weekends when the Bangkok crowd descend.

The beach is kept spotless by the young Thai Airmen at the Base.

    Perfect.

Aye, but I can think of far more rewarding places close to Bangkok to spend my time. Here for example....

Agree, the Thomson Dreamliner is a great flying experience, spoiled only by the 3-3-3 seat configuration.

Not really news, since announced back in August(26th); https://www.routesonline.com/news/38/airlineroute/280236/tui-airways-uk-schedules-new-south-east-asia-routes-in-w18/

But the real news is...have you actually tried to track down these elusive flights? They don't exist.
