Multi-monitor set up help

Options
Morning all

After some help please, I currently have a desktop PC with 2 x 23” monitors side by side, it would like to introduce a 3rd, larger main monitor. (31.5”)

What do I need to check and do please to incorporate this? Is my PC up to running 3 monitors? Will mostly be simple charts on webpages so it won’t be graphic heavy video games or anything fancy

I’m a massive technophobe so please in layman’s terms :o

  • 1. Does your graphics card have at least three connectors to plug monitors in? Note that some DVI connectors can drive two monitors with a splitter.

    2. Even if it has enough connectors, is the card capable of actually delivering images to all three at once? Some are, some aren't, it will be in the graphics card specifications somewhere. The card in my computer at work has three connectors on the back but can only send images to any two of them simultaneously.

    3.You also need to check that your card can deliver images at the native resolution of the new monitor. Older cards won't support 4k, for example.

    That's as "layman's terms" as I can make it.

    This will be a solution for sure;

    https://www.amazon.co.uk/Anker-Display-Docking-Ethernet-included/dp/B00C631EYU/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1544957655&sr=8-2&keywords=anker+display+dock

    There are others similar on the market and they all use 'DisplayLink' Firmware and software.

    You connect two monitors to the dock and use its inbuilt processing for those and then a third or forth into your PC. The dock connects to your PC via USB 3.0. USB 2.0 Versions are available.

    There may well be cheaper options around but have posted that one as I have it myself.

    At work I have 2 23" Monitors and my laptop running no issues. In my home office I have a 43" 4K Monitor and a HD 1080p 23" Monitor running off a slightly different version (Same DisplayLink SW though)
