Lump Sum To Save

Firstly I assume you have emergency rainy day cash in which case this should be in high interest easy access accounts?
5 years is borderline suitable for a balanced risk S&S investment such as Vanguard LifeStrategy 60 fund. This has a mix of globally diversified stocks and bonds and includes some currency hedging to reduce the impact of exchange rate volatility.
With lump sums an iWeb S&S ISA might be a good choice putting £20k into VLS60 this tax year and a further £20k at the start of next tax year.
