Unexpectedly High Electricity Bill

I've taken meter readings for the last two days ... again, way higher than expected, 20KW then 25KW
We have nothing that would draw this amount of power. All that would have been used:
Dishwasher x 1, washing machine x 1, small fridge x 2, small freezer x 2, cooker x 60 mins, iphone charging x 4, computer on for 6 hours, lights and 2 x tvs on for some hours.
No electric heating, electric showers, immersion heaters, hot tubs, spas, swimming pools, underfloor heating, etc., etc.
Can anyone recommend an electricity usage meter that actually works? They all seem to be a bit hit or miss.
Regards

Agreed - remember this is winter. More lighting, no holidays, at home more. My annual figure for my gas heated detached house is 13kwh ; so far in December its been 18kwh.Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill0 -
A quick follow-up to all of the above.
For five days I took daily readings, and they were as follows: 20, 14, 14, 15, 21
This was reported to nPower who have now accepted it as a formal complaint to look into.
I have now set myself a weekly reading target.
So this morning I opened the meter cabinet to find the red light (1000 flashes per KW) flashing about once every half a second.
I went into the house and turned off everything at the fuse box, including the master switch. As far as I was concerned, everything was off.
Went back to the box, same thing, flashing red light, probably 100 flashes per minute, so 1KW every ten minutes, 6 an hour, 144 a day.
I have also just calculated that my average daily usage for last week (that's daily usage) is 190KW a day!
Rang back nPower, explained everything, and they will get back to me within 7 to 10 working days! I might (if I'm lucky), get a call back before then.
